Trademark monitoring software that reads the register every night.
Thorgate scores every new US trademark application against your marks — not just exact matches — and alerts you the morning a conflict shows up. A full trademark watch service with status tracking and deadline docketing, from $49 a month.
A one-time clearance search protects you for one day.
Roughly 700,000 applications hit the USPTO every year. Any one of them could be confusingly close to a name you already use. Clearing a mark before you file tells you nothing about what gets filed next week — that is what trademark monitoring, the active core of brand protection, is for.
- ▪Enterprise watch is priced for corporations. Corsearch, Clarivate, and Markify start around $5,000 a year and don't return small-firm phone calls.
- ▪Consumer tools only catch exact matches. A watch that misses “NORTHWYND” for “NORTHWIND” isn't watching — it's a search box.
- ▪Missed deadlines are silent. A blown Section 8 or renewal window cancels a registration outright, with no grace period and no reminder unless you built one.
Three jobs, run nightly against the full US register.
Conflict alerts
Every new application is scored against your marks on spelling, sound, shared words, and class. High-severity conflicts email you by morning; weaker ones wait quietly in your digest, so you're not drowning in false alarms.
Status monitoring
For every mark you own, Thorgate tracks USPTO status and explains each transition — office action, publication, opposition, registration — in a sentence, with the action window it opens.
Deadline docketing
Office-action responses, opposition windows, Statements of Use, Section 8, and renewals are computed from your record with an escalating reminder ladder and one-click calendar export.
The part cheap monitoring skips.
An alert is only useful if it catches the marks that actually matter and stays quiet on the ones that don't.
- ▪Spelling and sound. Edit-distance plus phonetic keys catch “Kwikset” against “Quickset” and “NORDPIQUE” against “NORTH PEAKE.”
- ▪Words and class. Shared distinctive terms are weighted by class proximity — an exact-class filing outranks a coordinated class, which outranks an unrelated one.
- ▪Severity you control. One composite score, banded into tiers. Set the threshold that alerts you immediately and the one that waits for the digest.
- ▪Triage that sticks. Dismiss a finding once and rescoring never resurfaces it. Escalate the ones you're acting on; export the evidence when you need to act on infringement.
Serious coverage, without the enterprise bill.
Deep coverage at $5K+/yr on annual contracts, built for in-house counsel. Overkill and overpriced for 1–100 marks.
Real similarity scoring plus docketing and evidence capture the consumer tools skip, at a tenth of enterprise pricing.
Exact-match USPTO checks with weak similarity logic, no docketing, no evidence capture. Cheap, but misses what matters.
Priced by marks watched, not by which alerts you're allowed to see.
Every plan monitors nightly. Brand watches your marks from $49/mo; Professional covers 25 marks for $199/mo — about $8 a mark — with a 14-day trial and two months free on annual billing. See full pricing →
The short answers.
Four signals combined into one severity score: spelling similarity, phonetic similarity, shared distinctive words, and Nice class overlap. Common words are weighted down by how often they appear across the register, so two marks that merely share “GROUP” or “CONSULTING” do not score as a conflict.
A trademark search is a one-time snapshot you run before filing. Monitoring is continuous — it watches the register going forward and tells you when something new becomes a problem.
Yes. Deadlines publish to a private ICS feed that subscribes into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, findings export to branded PDF reports, and weekly digests summarise what was watched and what was found — including when nothing was.
No. Matches are scored and banded by severity — only high-confidence conflicts alert immediately, borderline ones wait in your digest, and the thresholds are yours to tune. Dismissed findings never resurface.
Same engine. This page describes the software itself — what it scores and what it produces. For what the trademark monitoring service covers and what it costs, start there.
Thorgate covers the US federal register (USPTO), including status and TTAB-adjacent data. It is built specifically for the US register, so it can score and docket that data deeply rather than spread thin across jurisdictions.
Why watching beats searching.
What is trademark watching?
What a watch compares, why exact-match alerts catch almost nothing, and when it is worth paying for.
Protecting a mark after registration
Using it, maintaining it, policing it — the four things that keep a registration alive.
The 30-day opposition window
The short clock that makes periodic searching unreliable, and what happens if you miss it.
